Varsity events officially return to The Furnace this weekend

KELOWNA, B.C. – The UBC Okanagan department of athletics and recreation is set to officially welcome fans back to UBCO Gymnasium, also known as The Furnace, this weekend as the women's and men's volleyball teams host the UFV Cascades on Friday, November 5 and Saturday, November 6.

The doubleheaders get underway on Friday at 6 p.m. and on Saturday at 3 p.m.

With the return of regular season action to The Furnace for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be new requirements in place for fans wishing to attend home games this season.

All fans over the age of 12 will need to provide proof to event staff that they are double vaccinated with either the BC vaccine card or the Federal government vaccine card. A check point will be set up at the main entrance to The Furnace where the status of fans will be checked.

In addition, fans are encouraged to arrive early to games as the facility has a limit of 421 spectators.

Tickets for Heat home games go on sale 30 minutes prior to the start of each scheduled doubleheader.

All UBCO students can attend regular season varsity for free as well as children under the age of 12.

Adults (18+) are $10 while seniors (65+), visiting students and youths (13-17) are $5.

The Heat basketball teams will host their home openers next weekend when they take on the UBC Thunderbirds on Friday, November 12 and Saturday, November 13.
