ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – UBC Okanagan Heat women's soccer lead assistant coach Carli Tingstad was announced as the new head coach of the Brock Badgers on Tuesday morning.
Tingstad, who has served in her capacity alongside Heat head coach Craig Smith for the past six seasons, takes over a Badgers program that is looking for a fresh start after finishing 2-8 in the OUA West division this past Fall.
"I'm incredibly proud of Carli on earning her first head coaching role and our loss is definitely Brock's gain," commented Smith on his long-time assistant's appointment. "In my eyes, Carli is an incredible young coach and incredible person who just cares so much. I'm really interested to see how their program goes because I'm pretty sure I know which way it's going to go."
Tingstad joined the Heat ahead of the 2016-17 season after graduating from Douglas College where she helped the Royals win a CCAA national championship in 2015. The Vernon, B.C., native also built up her coaching resume with the Thompson Okanagan Football Club where she served as head coach from 2015-20.
"Brock is getting a coach that prioritizes integrity and consistently shows how much she cares about people and players," added Smith. "On the pitch, her tactical knowledge and methodology and how she applies that is impressive, as well as her periodization skills. She's an all-rounder and I'm very excited for her."
The process to replace Tingstad on the women's soccer coaching staff will begin immediately.
