PREVIEW: Heat take on NCAA competition in Richmond

Richmond, BC – The Heat women's golf team will open their season against the stiffest of competition this week when they travel to Richmond for the True North Classic.

The event features nine NCAA Division 2 schools along with two Canada West schools in UBCO and the UFV Cascades as the women tee it up at Richmond Country Club.

Samantha Copeland and Rebecca Reitsma both return for their second seasons following rookie campaigns in which they were both named CCAA All-Canadians and PacWest All-Stars. Copeland was also honoured as the UBC Okanagan Female Rookie of the Year and was also a finalist for Outstanding Athlete of the Year.

Newcomer Chloe Sies transferred in from Red Deer College where she was a part of the CCAA National Championship team of the Kings last fall at Desert Blume Golf Course and is also joined by newcomer Kayleigh Trowman.

The lone upper-year player on this year's squad will be KSS product McKenna Lesiuk, who has multiple medals both provincially and nationally since joining the program back in 2016.

New head coach Clay Stothers will travel with the women to Richmond after being appointed the head man back in the spring. Stothers brings an extensive resume to the Heat program including being named PGA of BC Teacher of the Year.
