The accolades keep coming for Heat golfer Samantha Copeland, just a week after earning the UBCO Female Rookie of the Year award the golfing phenom from Calgary combined her prowess on the course with academic success to earn a CCAA Academic All-Canadian award.
The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian award is the CCAA's most prestigious student-athlete honour, epitomizing a commitment to academic success and athletic achievement. The requirements for the award combine playing at a conference all-star level while maintaining above honours marks at your institution.

With Copeland's grades well above the honours level, the two-time Provincial Player of the Week, Provincial All-Star, Provincial gold medal, and Provincial Player of the Year would add the CCAA's highest award to her trophy cabinet. Copeland's latest national recognition joins to her CCAA All-Canadian that was earned in October while leading her team to a national bronze medal.
Asked how to focus on sport and academics Copeland talked about balance in all aspects.
"I would say that my involvement in college sport has shown me the importance of time management and has shown how important it is to have balance when it comes to life as a university student," explained Copeland.
"Being on the golf team has given me something to work hard for, and I want to keep high grades so that I can continue to be on the team for the next four years. In the process of staying on top of my schoolwork and attempting to get ahead when playing in tournaments, I have found that I have been able to get to know my professors better. I try to meet with them to ensure that I can be successful in my courses, this helps especially when I miss classes due to travel. It's also great to have other teammates in the same position so that we can keep up on our school work together."
With only UBC Okanagan golf program the only sport competing in the CCAA there were only eight student athletes from Heat varsity teams even eligible for the CCAA's most prestigious student-athlete honour. Copeland was the only golfer from the PACWEST conference to make the list and one of just 17 PACWEST athletes to earn the high honour.
