Reegan Bond set to join women’s basketball for 2022-23

KELOWNA, B.C. – The UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team announced their first recruit for the 2022-23 season on Tuesday as local product Reegan Bond is set to join head coach Bobby Mitchell's squad.

Bond, a 5-9 guard, is a product of Kelowna Secondary who has also shone for the Jr. Heat program during her basketball career. She has been accepted into UBC Okanagan's Faculty of Management after graduating from KSS a year early with a 98 percent average.

"We are very excited to have Reegan join our program," commented Mitchell on the newest member of the Heat. "She is someone we are quite familiar with having been involved in the Jr Heat program for the past five summers. Reegan understands hard work and has great IQ, and those two things will help her make the jump to this level."

Bond brings an impressive resume to the Heat as she has won at every level she's competed with. A member of the B.C. High Performance Targeted Athlete program since Grade 8, she led Dr. Knox Middle School to the 2020 B.C. junior girls championship after scoring 14 points in the championship game. Following the victory, she was named tournament MVP.

This past fall, as a member of the Jr. Heat's U17 team, Bond was once again named the tournament MVP after leading her team to victory at the BBALL Nationals Club Championship.

Bond joins a Heat squad that is coming off their second-best season in program history. UBCO posted a 7-11 record before narrowly falling in the opening round of the Canada West playoffs to the MacEwan Griffins.
