First win of the year:

  • The Heat were able to capture their first victory of 2019-20 with a (56-47) win against the WolfPack last weekend as they were able to control the boards with a strong frontcourt presence.
  • Getting out to an early lead, they held on for the win, out-rebounding TRU (52-22) as they held the 'Pack to 25% shooting from the field.

Rookie-Senior frontcourt duo:

  • The pair of first-year Jaeli Ibbetson and fifth-year Jordan Korol have been responsible for the brunt of UBCO's offensive attack thus far. The two-some have put up nearly 50% of UBCO's total points this season.
  • Ibbetson started her Canada West career with three straight double-doubles. Through four games she is currently sitting in eighth in the conference with 17.5 points per game as is tagging along with a league-high 14 boards to boot.
  • Korol, after averaging a career-high 13 points per game last season, is right there averaging 12.8 points with 9.5 boards per game. Her 20 total offensive rebounds are good for the fourth-best number in Canada West.

Head to head with UFV: (2-16)

  • The Heat hosted UFV last season but the visiting Cascades would top UBCO in both games, first (73-48), then (72-59) despite Brianna Falk's career-high 17-point performance.

Scouting UFV

Season to date:

  • The Cascades preseason ended with a (4-3) record, including an (85-46)  win against the TRU WolfPack.
  • The team opened their regular season on the road in Winnipeg as they took on the Wesman.
  • UFV would drop Friday's game (77-62) despite Taylor Claggett 19 point-14 rebound double-double.
  • In a closer game on Saturday, the Cascades would fall (77-72) to the Wesman's 33-point game from Faith Hezekiah.

Heat Killer

  • Fifth-year forward, Taylor Claggett, a Canada West all-rookie in her first year and a third-team all-star last season, dropped a combined 44 points on UBCO in two games last season as she led her team to a pair of victories.
  • After finishing fourth in the conference with 18.4 points a game, she is back at it once again, averaging 18.5 points per game this season, good for sixth-best in the conference.
  • Her 13.5 boards per game trails only UBCO's Ibbetson for tops in the conference.
  • Throughout her career, she has averaged nearly 14 points a game against the Heat.
