VICTORIA - A strong first round by Nik Federko and a fierce closing round by Emily Cornwall led the duo to a pair of 11th place finishes at the Vikes Invitational at Cordova Bay Golf Course last week.

Cornwall's second-round 76, helped the UBCO women's golf team grab a spot on the podium, finishing behind UBC and UFV in third place. After scoring an 12-over par 85 in round one, Cornwall bounced back to fire a round of three-over-par, the best round by a non-Thunderbird golfer at the event.

Federko's opening one-under par 70, put him in red numbers and in a tie for fifth after 18 holes, but an eight-over par 79 the next day saw him drop to a tie for 11th. The fourth-year lefty was one of nine golfers on the men's side to fire an under-par round as he led UBCO's squad to a fourth-place finish.

The Vikes Invitational was the official kick off to the spring golf season for the Heat. Both teams are now making their way to Reflection Bay Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nevada for the Rocky Mountain College Invitational hosted by the RMC Battlin' Bears starting on Tuesday, March 15.
