ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – In their first regular season game back in action since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UBC Okanagan men's basketball team ran into a tough opponenet in the UFV Cascades and were topped 85-63 on Friday night.
The Heat were done in by a slow start against the Cascades as the team only managed to put up 24 points in the opening half.
UBCO managed to close the gap to 16 points at one point before the Cascades put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter.
The Cascades offensive success was led by Vick Toor (Kent, WA) who put up 24 points, nine rebounds, and five assists for the home squad.
In the losing effort for the Heat, the offensive charge was led by Gus Goerzen (Roberts Creek, B.C.) who totalled 14 points and seven rebounds, followed by Shirley with 13 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Both Goerzen and Shirley each would put up a pair of three balls for the Heat.
Next up for UBCO, they will travel up to Kamloops, B.C. for some more President's Cup action against the TRU Wolfpack on Saturday night. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. and can be watched live on CanadaWest.tv presented by Co-op.
