About Jr. Heat Girls Basketball

We wish to provide the a development opportunity for athletes within the Okanagan basketball community for aspiring female basketball athletes here at UBC Okanagan. Specific to UBC Okanagan, our programs establish a connection between the Heat varsity basketball program and the Jr. Heat program.

Our training sessions will focus on developing well-rounded versatile players that are able to play multi-positions. Training of the athlete’s decision making to improve IQ and their skill set will be the priority of the practice plans. Our goal is to provide athletes with a good foundation of conceptual play and skills that would help them succeed in any basketball system. Each player will be encouraged to react and think on the court rather than follow strict rules and structure, therefore learning to play basketball and not just learning plays.

Our Jr. Heat Girls Basketball program is lead by the UBC Okanagan Heat Womens Basketball Head Coach. UBC Okanagan assistant coaches, varsity basketball student-athletes, and administrative staff further support the Jr. Heat programs.

Upcoming Programs

Jr. Heat Girls Basketball - Club 2021

Currently basketball is not cleared for contact/compete so we have come up with a few options as we proceed with our program.

  1. Once teams are picked and no compete you will train with your teams/coaches twice a week.
  2. We anticipate that the first level of compete will be within our program. At that point we shift to compete twice a week in the following format. One day will small group compete and the other will be 5v5 play. This will not be within the teams you are trying out for but rather we will mix the entire group up weekly to create a competitive environment for everyone.
  3. The final stage sounds like we will be able to form a cohort with 3-4 other clubs and play traditional games. This will be in the teams you are trying out for and will be tourney's and or play dates...Dates to be determined.
  4. We believe we will be in Stage 1 for April, Stage 2 in May, and Stage 3 mid-may to June. This is all of course depending on the PHO and PSO and when they give us the go ahead or not. We plan to run April-July moving through stages where we can.
