The UBC Okanagan Heat cross country team, both the men's and women's squads, will run in the second-ever Vikes Invitational hosted at Beacon Hill Park in Victoria on Oct. 13.
With only a dual meet ran so far this season the Heat will run at the site of the 2017 U SPORTS national championships in their second race at the U SPORTS level. Race length for the men is a 10-km loop and the women an 8-km course. The university races will follow a morning of elementary and high school races that anticipate over 300 youth participating.
Other then the University of Victoria, the other Canada West schools also slated to be at the invitational include Regina, UBC, Trinity Western, MacEwan and Thompson Rivers.
The university teams will race at 12:00 p.m. for the women and 1:00 p.m. for the men.
Elementary school races will start the day at 10:00 a.m. and will be followed by a 6-km boys and 4-km girls high school race.

Both teams will follow up this race with the B.C. Championships on Oct. 27 in Abbotsford ahead of the U SPORTS National Championship on Nov. 10 in Kingston, Ont. Some of the Heat runners will compete at the Larry Nichols Annual race on October 21st.
