RECAP: Stellar rookie performances lead Heat to victory in Richmond

Richmond, BC - Led by two rookies making their first career PacWest start, the Heat women's golf team would pull out a narrow one shot victory over the Vancouver Island Mariners at the Quilchena Golf and Country Club. The Heat would finish with a two day total of 339 with the Mariners just one shot back at 340.

Calgary product Samantha Copeland would capture the female individual title following rounds of 83 and 84. The first year player would prevail by two shots over Alex Foston of VIU in the individual competition. The other rookie making her first appearance in Heat colours is Rebecca Reitsma of Kelowna. The two-sport athlete would make two birdies on day 1 on her way to an 84 and would follow that up with an 88 on day two.

The other member of the Heat travel team would be McKenna Lesiuk from the Kelowna Golf and Country Club, who fired rounds of 93 and 94 to start her third season with the Heat women's team.

Coach Bell on the weekend performance:

Head women's coach and Heat alumni Cody Bell was very impressed by the performance of his two first year players noting that their maturity and patience were the key to the teams success. "It was tough out their all weekend in the wind and rain and I thought both rookies did a fantastic job staying patient and not getting ahead of themselves."

The Heat will be on home turf this weekend when they host the second conference tournament at the Bear Course at the Okanagan Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday.
