Tough home slate:

  • Following this past weekend against Brandon, the Heat will now have played three of the top four teams in the country, with all of these matches coming in the UBC Okanagan gym.
  • The schedule will ease up the remainder of the way for the youthful team, as their next six games come against teams with a losing record.

Players to watch:

  • Fourth year libero Eli Risso has done his best during the tough stretch of games, the Kelowna product currently leads the conference in digs per set (3.47) and sits in second place in total digs (104). Risso currently owns the Canada West for total digs in a season with 295.
  • Rookie Cam Vanderveen continues to make the most of his opportunities for the young team, as he put down a career-high 19 kills last time out against Brandon. Over the past four games, the outside hitter has 37 total kills and 13 digs.

Head to head with Saskatchewan: (2-12)

  • In 14 recorded regular season results, the Heat have won twice, with those wins separated by four shutout weekends stretching from the 2012/13 to 2015/16 seasons.

Scouting the Huskies

Up and down season:

  • Although Saskatchewan comes in below .500 (4-6) they have posted a three-match winning streak early in the year, with all of these victories coming in three sets.
  • This stretch was followed up with a four match losing streak which they were able to snap last Saturday against UBC on the road with a four-set win.
  • The Huskies currently sit in the bottom half of most important statistical categories in the Canada West, including kills per set (10.58, 11th), digs per set (7.28, 12th) and attack percentage (.230, 7th).

Outside hitter duo:

  • The combination of Dylan Mortensen and Colin Fraser has combined for 227 kills in 10 matches so far for the Huskies along with 83 digs and 35 blocks.
  • Mortensen, who is a sophomore, has been in double-figures in terms of kills in the last five games, including a 24 kill output against Calgary on Nov. 10th.
  • Fraser is in his fifth season with the program and has finished in double-digits in kills in all but three Canada West matches.
