PREVIEW: Two in Calgary upcoming for Heat

What you need to know

  • The UBC Okanagan men's soccer team will be back on the road for back-to-back games against a pair of Calgary schools.
  • First up, the Calgary Dinos on Saturday (11 a.m. PDT) on the turf at McMahon Stadium. Followed by a Sunday afternoon tilt versus the Mount Royal Cougars (12:30 p.m. PDT).
  • The Heat exploded for five goals last time out against the Saskatchewan Huskies, a single match Canada West record for UBCO, and will look to continue their goal scoring form on the road.
  • This will be the first time the Heat and Cougars have ever met in a Canada West matchup.

Goal scoring frenzy

- The Heat offense went off last week for five goals against the University of Saskatchewan 

- Five separate players score goals for the squad: forward Cole Kingzett, defender Hamish Walde, defender Shaun Pilcher, forward Andrei Stalfort and forward Wyatt Gilbert

- Through five games the Heat have eight goals which puts them on pace to pass last years total of 13 goals in 16 games

- Hamish Walde now leads the team with two goals on the season

- For Pilcher and Stalfort it was the first goal in their CW careers. Of the 8 goals scores this season, five of them were by players scoring the first in their career. Along with Pilcher and Stalfort; Christian Taylor, Hamish Walde, and Sam McDonald also notched their first ever goal this season.

Scouting the Dinos 

- Calgary comes into the weekend with a record of 3-3-0 on the season 

- Last weekend they lost to nationally ranked #2 UBC by a score of 2-0 and beat the University of Fraser Valley Cascades 2-0 on the road.

- Four of the Dinos first six games have been on the road and they have played both the top two teams in the country (UBC and Alberta)

- Midfielder Bori Falaye currently is tied for second in the conference with four goals on the season

Head to Head (UBCO v CGY) (1W-0L-0T)

- The last time these two teams met the Heat won a five-goal thriller in Kelowna after Cole Kingzett and Zach Rachynski scored goals in the last two minutes of the game to give the Heat a 3-2 win

- This was the only previous match up between the two teams.

Scouting the Cougars

- Through six games, Mount Royal has a record of 2-3-1 and currently sit in fourth spot in the Canada West's Prairie Division.

- This will be the Cougars first home game since August 27th as they have been on the road for the last six matches

- Mount Royal uses a balanced offense attack, as six different players have scored so far this season

- One player to watch is midfielder Justin Anderson-Louch as he has nine shots on target already this season including a goal

Head to Head (UBCO v MRU) (0W-0L-0T)

- This will be the first ever Canada West match up between the two schools since the Heat soccer program's inaugural season in USPORTS in 2014-15
